Smart sections give more flexibility to appointment reminders, they are smart, customisable merge fields. Smart sections will only display if a patient’s appointment meets certain criteria.
Smart sections ensures certain information is only shown to those patients who need to see it providing less confusion for patients who do not require this information but are still presented with it. For example a patient being told they have forms to fill out when they don't.
You need to configure both your email/sms templates and the smart section templates.
You need to start by customising the content of your smart sections.
You can do this by going to Configure > Automatic Appointment Reminders
Select ‘Next’ twice to “Automatic Appointment Reminders and Replies”
Select “Smart Sections for Appointment Reminders”
Select the tab you wish to setup and edit the content of your smart sections.
Edit your SMS sections by typing into the text box.
The email sections are displayed in html so will require you to copy and paste them into the email editor to view and edit. We are working on extending this to provide a better way to edit the email sections from this view.
Next you need to add smart sections to your email/SMS templates the same way you do with merge fields by pasting them into your appointment reminder template.
If you include a Teledentistry Smart Section in your reminder template, the content of the smart section will only be visible to patients who have an appointment with a category of ‘Teledentistry’.
SMS – [Section.SMSTeledentistry]
Email – [Section.EmailTeledentistry]
If you include a Portal Smart Section in your reminder template, the content of the smart section will only be visible to patients who have outstanding forms.
SMS – [Section.SMSOutstandingForms]
Email – [Section.EmailOutstandingForms]
Note that you may need to remove some email/SMS content from the template to avoid sections being duplicated (eg 2 patient portal buttons). For example if they meet the criteria it will put in everything in the template plus the smart section information
Smart sections require an appointment context so can only be used for automatic appointment reminders, or emails and sms' sent from the edit appointment window.
