Requesting a CHI Number
A CHI Number is mandatory for eDental claims in Scotland; providers are prompted for it when completing a claim where the CHI number is missing.
Requesting CHI Numbers
- With the patient record open.
- Click Request CHI.

A validation data check will be performed against the patient information.

A list of matching results will be presented on-screen.

Any missing data will be presented to you in an on-screen prompt

If the patient appears in the results list, you can select the relevant patient and then click Accept Selected Patient

If the patient does not appear, you can select Secondary Search in the top right-hand corner to search again. If the patient then shows select the patient, then select Accept Selected Patient.

If the patient does not appear, you will be able to select Patient Not Found and then continue with the treatment, as long as a search has been done, it does not matter that the CHI number is missing

If a patient has not had NHS treatment previously, the search results may not provide you with a CHI Number for the patient. This is perfectly normal

Additional Information
- Sometimes the system cannot locate a CHI Number for a patient, but providers can still claim so long as they have requested a CHI Number using the secondary search.
- If a patient has not had NHS treatment previously, the search results may not provide you with a CHI Number for the patient, this is perfectly normal.
