NHS: Charting Treatment as or with a DCP (Dental Care Professional)
When a Dental Care Professional (DCP) assists or performs treatment on an NHS Course of Treatment (COT) this must be recorded on the FP17 prior to transmitting the claim to the NHS.
There are several variations how to enter this information on the FP17 depending on the level of involvement of the DCP during the treatment.
Please Note: A DCP must have their GDC and DCP information added to their Provider record in order to be added to the FP17. For details on how to add this information, read Adding Dental Care Professional (DCP) Information. |
The following variables, affect how information must be added to the FP17 for a COT:
- If a Dentist opens a COT, performs treatment and TC's the treatment their information must be marked as the Performer on the FP17.
- If a DCP has assisted in treatment, their information should be marked as the DCP on the FP17.
- If a DCP opens a COT, performs treatment and TC's the treatment, their information must be marked as the performer on the FP17, they must not be marked as the DCP.
- If a second DCP assists a DCP, they must be recorded in the DCP field on the FP17.
- For a DCP to open and perform NHS treatment their performer number (Personal ID) must be added to their provider file under the NHS tab and associated to your practice NHS contract.
- All GDC numbers must be added to the provider file in the GDC field.
- All NHS information, Personal ID's, Pin numbers and contract information must be completed for claims to be accepted.
