Band 2 explained
The changes being implemented for band 2 treatments are,
Band | UDAs | Treatment |
2(a) | 3 | Everything not covered under band 2(b) or 2(c). |
2(b) | 5 | Either Non-Molar Endodontics to permanent teeth or a combined total of three or more teeth requiring fillings or extractions. |
2(c) | 7 | Treatment involving Molar Endodontics to permanent teeth. |
The clinical data field, Endodontics (9305) has been replaced with molar endodontics (9370) and non-molar endodontics (9371) on 1st October 2022..
The new endodontic codes are not displayed in EXACT. These are automatically added to an FP17 and transmitted to the NHS with claims. |
Changes in EXACT
When charting an NHS course of treatment the UDA total will display the new value of UDAs from the date as defined by the NHS. Some examples of this are shown below.
Note: The new band 2 values will be calculated by Compass. The visual displays in EXACT are a visual aid to assist in UDA management. If you have any queries regarding the number of UDA's that are to be or have been awarded for a banded course of treatment, please contact your NHS team. NHS contact details can be found here. |
Band 2(b)
Charting a third extraction or filling increases the UDA count to 5 UDAs.
Band 2(c)
Charting molar endodontics to a permanent tooth adds 7 UDAs to the course of treatment.
Band 2 combination
Charting a combination of bands increases the UDA count.
Reporting
We understand the importance of reporting on your UDA's to track UDA progress and monitor your position against your targets. To achieve this we have added these new UDA figures to both the UDA or UOA Breakdown report as well as UDA/UOA report.
The UDA or UOA Report will display the new band 2 UDA values as per any charting.
The UDA or UOA Breakdown will display the new band 2 UDA values on individual rows, replacing the original Band 2 row.
Referrals and Incomplete treatments
When referring patients or claiming for incomplete treatment the band 2 UDA count will be displayed on the selection window to help you claim for the treatment you have completed.
Continuation of a new Band 2 treatment
If a patient has a continuation course of treatment where the original was a Band 2(a), 2(b) or 2(c) the patient charge for the continuation treatment does not change.
For example; a patient has a Band 2(b) course of treatment (COT) then within the continuation time period has a band 2(c) COT. The patient charge remains the same for all band 2 treatment.
