Instant Messaging Notifications
Configure how you're instant message notifications appear when you're logged into EXACT.
Message Notifications
You can set up your instant message notifications to make a sound, appear in EXACT or utilise Windows notifications to reduce interruptions while you're working.
Notification Sound Settings
The instant message audio alert can be changed per user,
- Go to Configure - User Settings.
- Under the heading Instant Messages, select an alert sound from the drop-down menu.
- Press Play to preview the audio.
- Click the save icon to save your changes.
💡Tip: Your computer must have speakers or audio capabilities to play any selected sounds.
Windows Notifications
Reduce interruptions with Windows notifications. EXACT must be open for this to function, if a notification is clicked with EXACT closed the login window will be opened. To open the message, click again in the notification centre once logged in as the correct user.
Clicking on a notification will open the message in EXACT. If the notification disappears before it is clicked, it will go into the notification centre where you can click it to open the message.
💡Tip: You must have Windows notifications enabled. When enabled, your arriving messages will be shown as a notification pop-up.
Enabling/Disabling Windows Notifications for EXACT

Select Start in Windows.

Then select Settings.
- Select System
- Select Notifications & actions
- Scroll down to the section Get notifications from these apps
- Locate EXACT Dental
- Toggle the switch to On to enable or Off to disable
- You will need to change this setting per computer and per Windows user if different staff log in as different Windows users.
Legacy Notification
You can use the original (legacy) instant message notifications for all users.
- Log in as an EXACT Administrator.
- Go to Configure - Settings.
- In the Filter on field (bottom left of your screen) search for instant messaging.use toasts where possible.
- Double-click the setting.
- Change this setting to 0.
- Press OK.
- Users may need to restart their EXACT (log out and back in) for changes to take effect.
