Sending a patient an SMS
To send an SMS to a patient, you need to have SMS registered and configured in EXACT.
Sending an SMS to a patient
- Open the patient file that you wish to contact.
- Click on the SMS icon at the top of their file

- In the window that appears you can select the following.
- The Provider and Specialist fields are used if there are any Provider or Specialist merge fields in the chosen SMS template.
- Select an SMS Template, adding/editing a template can be found in Creating/Editing SMS Templates.
- Category, this is the category it will display under in the patient's contacts tab and the description informs the user what the message is about.
- Click OK to preview a draft of the SMS to be sent.
All merge fields will be pre-populated with patient and/or specialist information.
If an SMS template was selected this screen should now show the SMS template as well as populating any merge fields with the relevant information. - You can edit the text if required.
A counter is displayed at the bottom to show how many characters you have used, SMS is charged per 160 characters. - Clicking OK will send the message.

Tips and Tricks
- Tips to reduce your character limit:
- Don't use emojis or Unicode text in your SMS (Unicode are non-standard GSM characters), basically keep to the alphabet, numbers and the standard characters displayed on your keyboard.
