Charting Treatment
To chart treatment, you need to create a course of treatment (COT).
Creating a Course of Treatment
- Open your patient record.
- Then select the chart tab to display the graphical tooth chart, COT area and activity tabs.
- Click the +1 at the top of the COT area.
- You will now be prompted to set the payor, number of appointments, and have options to edit the description and charting colour options (changing these will change your default charting colours).
- The payor will default to that set on the patient record.
- Click OK once you are happy with your settings.
- The COT will now open in the treatment area in a separate tab with the COT number to identify it.
Charting a Service on a Course of Treatment
You can chart services using quick charting, quick plans or select them individually, using the service list.
- Navigate through the service list to locate the service you require. Once located you can;
- Click it to highlight it then click on the appropriate tooth or surface to chart that service.
- Or double-click the service to chart it, a prompt will open if additional information is required.
- Repeat this for all services that are being performed in that appointment.
Editing a Charted Service
Once a service has been charted it can be edited, so long as the treatment has not been charged. If the treatment has been charged through you can resubmit the COT to make any required edits.
- You can either;
- Double-click to open the edit prompt.
- Or right-click then select edit.
- Now you can edit the provider, planned and completed dates, estimated and actual time, tooth number and the fee as well as add any notes.
- The tooth field enables you to enter a different tooth number by typing it or selecting it by using the tooth button. You can only use this on one tooth at a time, as it would be nonsensical to change the charting for more than one tooth to a single tooth. If you need to do this, you can delete the charting and re-enter the correct tooth.
Moving Treatment between Treatment Tabs
Once a Treatment Plan has been created, it may be necessary to move treatments between the COT tabs.
Treatment can be dragged from one tab to another, or you can copy, cut and paste treatment between the tabs.

- Click the item you wish to move, you can select multiple items by holding down the CTRL key as you click on each item.
- Keeping the mouse button depressed, drag the item(s) to the correct tab, using the mouse cursor (arrow) as a guide.
- Hover the mouse cursor over the tab the item(s) are to be placed in; that tab will become prominent enabling you to drag the item(s) to the correct appointment within that tab.
- Release the mouse button.
To Copy, Cut and Paste between Treatment Plans
- Click the item you wish to move, you can select multiple items by holding down the CTRL key as you click on each item.

- Click on the appropriate tab; use the arrow within the treatment plan as a guide to find the appointment you wish to place the item into. Right-click then select Paste.
Deleting a Charted Service
If you need to delete a service;
- Highlight the service.
- Right-click and select delete or press the Delete key on your keyboard.
- This can only be done if the treatment has not been charged yet.
Charting Multiple Treatments
You can chart multiple items at the same time, such as several adjacent extractions or implants when fitting appliances.
To chart items such as bridges that span multiple teeth, you can either;
- Choose the appropriate service code.
- Then click on the first tooth to be selected.
- Press and hold your mouse then drag the rectangle displayed on the chart over the teeth to be included.
- All teeth that the rectangle covers will be highlighted when you release the mouse button.
- Alternatively double-click on a service to open a charting prompt.
- In this prompt you can then either enter the number for the tooth or teeth the service applies to.
- Or select the teeth using the left mouse button for individual teeth.
- Or the right mouse button for multiple adjacent teeth.
Tips and Tricks
- If you wish to change the price code, but the don't recalculate checkbox is ticked for that service, the price will not be overridden.
