Configuring an EXACT Network Backup using Windows Task Scheduler
Windows Task Scheduler can be configured to perform backups of your EXACT data.
💡Tip: Schedule a reminder to log into your backup data, to check your backups are saving correctly, and that you can access the saved data, should you need to.
Backing up EXACT with Windows Task Scheduler
⚠️ Note: Your EXACT Network Backup needs to be configured before setting up the Windows Task Scheduler.
🔗 Configuring a Network Backup
- Once your network backup is configured, close EXACT to confirm the backup operation functions correctly.
- Select Yes when prompted to perform the backup.
- You can choose to let the backup run or cancel to continue with this setup and perform the backup at a later point.
- Open Task Scheduler in Windows. You can find this by typing Task Scheduler into your Windows Search.
- Click Create Task on the right-hand side.
- Enter a Name for the task, e.g. EXACT Backup.
- Tick the option Run whether the user is logged on or not, to ensure the backup runs regardless of whether anyone is logged in or not.
- Select the Triggers tab.
- Select New.
- Set your backup schedule for when you would like the backup to occur.
💡Tip: Configure this to run outside of your standard operating hours, taking any other software operating, such as anti-virus scans, into consideration. - Click OK to save your settings.
- Select the Actions tab.
- Select New.
- Click Browse, then select the backup.exe from one of the following locations
- Workstations: C:\Program Files (x86)\Software of Excellence\EXACT\backup.exe
- Servers: C:\Program Files (x86)\Software of Excellence\EXACT Server\backup.exe
- Click Open.
- Click OK.
- Select the Settings tab.
- Amend the Stop the task if it runs longer than from 3 days to 1 day.
- Click OK.
- Click OK on the following screen.
- A Windows admin username and password may be requested to save the scheduled task.
Backup Location
The backup location will need Windows permissions configured to enable the backup to run. If you have any errors when performing this, complete the following steps.
- Locate the backup folder.
- Right-click the backup folder (i.e. C:\DataBkup).
- Go to Properties.
- Under Security, click edit.
- Highlight users, then tick the full control box to make sure all Windows users can read/write to that folder.
