Setting up an EXACT network backup via Windows task schedule
Backups of your EXACT data can be scheduled to run via Windows Task Scheduler.
Configuring Windows Task Scheduler to Backup your EXACT Data
- Once your network backup is configured, close EXACT to confirm the backup runs.
- Select Yes when prompted to perform the backup
- You can choose to let the backup run or cancel to continue with this setup
- Open Task Scheduler in Windows (type Task Scheduler into your Windows search).
- Click Create Task on the right-hand side
- Name, enter a name identifying this process, eg, EXACT backup
- Tick Run whether the user is logged on or not
- Select the Triggers tab at the top
- Click New
- Select when you would like the event to run, remember to configure this to run outside of your operating hours and any other software operating times, eg anti-virus scans
- Click OK to save your settings
- Select the Actions tab
- Click New
- Then Browse, and select the backup.exe from one of the following locations
- For workstations "C:\Program Files (x86)\Software of Excellence\EXACT\Backup.exe"
- For servers, "C:\Program Files (x86)\Software of Excellence\EXACT Server\backup.exe"
- Click Open
- Click OK
- On the Settings tab
- Change the Stop the task if it runs longer than drop-down from 3 days to 1 day
- Click OK
- Click OK on the following screen, a Windows admin username and password may be requested before the scheduled task will save
Backup Location
The location you are backing up to will need Windows permissions to write to the folder, if you have any errors regarding this please complete the following steps.
- Locate the backup folder.
- Right-click the backup folder (i.e C:\DataBkup)
- Go to Properties
- Under Security click edit
- Highlight users then tick the full control box to make sure all windows users can read/write to that folder
