Printing or Emailing Prescriptions
When you have issued prescriptions to a patient, you are able to print these on your chosen printer.
Printing a prescription
- Open the patient record.
- Select the chart tab.
- Select the prescription tab on the right of the screen.
- Create your prescription.
- Select print then select the correct printer to print.
- The prescription will now be saved in the prescription tab.
Emailing a prescription
- Open the patient record.
- Select the chart tab.
- Select the prescription tab on the right of the screen.
- Create your prescription.
- Select email then draft and send the email to the correct recipients.
- The prescription will now be saved in the prescription tab.
Once the prescription has been printed or emailed, the prescription tab will display an icon to signify this has been printed/emailed and what date the prescription was created along with the first few words from the drug list.
The icons on the prescriptions tab represent prescription items or dispensary items.
EXACT will record previews of a prescription as a print and will update the prescription tab as such.
You can reprint a prescription using the print button on the prescriptions tab.
Please contact the EXACT support team if you need help modifying the layout to accommodate a new printer or label stock.

Tips and Tricks
- You can edit the details of a prescription before you print it. This is useful if the prescribed item is slightly different from the item stored in EXACT.
For example, if you wish to prescribe 20 antibiotic tablets and there is only an existing item with 30 tablets. Editing the quantity on the label saves you from having to create a new item. The edited prescription details are saved against the patient's record rather than the original prescription item. - You cannot edit a prescription in this way if you are reprinting it.
- You can include a maximum of three items per prescription, this is due to the size of prescription labels. If you use a default prescription template your prescription will be positioned to enable label printing.
