Configuring a Scanner
Your IT Support will have configured the scanning software and will have probably completed this.
You should only change the scanner setup if new hardware is installed or scanning is not working.
Selecting a scanning source
- Open a patient record then select the contacts tab.
- If you are using the EXACT scanning acquisition agent, you will only have the option of a scan button, selecting this will open the scanner app.
- Select your scanner from the drop-down menu
- You're now ready to scan.
- Or if you are using the original legacy scanning functionality.
- Click the source button.
- Select your desired scanner.
- Click the scan button.
- You're now ready to scan.
Scanner settings
When a scanner is selected in the EXACT scanner acquisition agent, you are provided with you scanning options, these consist of:
- Paper source, if you have multiple options, you can select the one you require with this dropdown.
- Orientation, allows you to select from portrait and landscape.
- Page size, will provide you with your available paper sizes.
- Colour options, give you the ability to select greyscale, black and white or colour (not using colour will reduce the file size and therefore reduce the space used on your server storage).
- DPI is the dots per inch, lower DPI is best for documents as these have reduced definition, unlike photos which require higher DPI. Lower DPI settings will also reduce storage space.
- Straighten, will resolve wonky pages by aligning the page appropriately.
Setting the scanning format
- Select configure - practice settings.
- Under the format for scanned documents header, select the PDF (multipage support) option.
- If you select JPEG, you are restricted to single-page scanning.
- Select OK to save your changes.
