Configuring an EXACT Network Backup using EXACT Scheduler
EXACT Scheduler can be configured to automatically perform a backup of your EXACT data.
⚠️Note: For EXACT Scheduler to function, a user account must remain logged into Windows. You can use Windows Task Scheduler, as this does not require a user to remain logged in.
💡Tip: Schedule a reminder to log into your backup data, to check your backups are saving correctly, and that you can access the saved data, should you need to.
Backing up EXACT with the EXACT Scheduler
⚠️ Note: Your EXACT Network Backup needs to be configured before setting up the Windows Task Scheduler.
🔗 Configuring a Network Backup
- Once your network backup is configured, close EXACT to confirm the backup operation functions correctly.
- Select Yes when prompted to perform the backup.
- You can choose to let the backup run or cancel to continue with this setup and perform the backup at a later point.
- Launch EXACT.
- Go to File - Scheduler.
- Select Create New Event.
- Select Other.
- Select Network Backup.
- Click Next until you reach Select the repeat cycle of the event.
- Select the option that best suits your practice setup.
💡Tip: Perform backups weekly on different computers, with each computer backing up on different days. This helps to reduce the risk of data loss in the event of a crisis. - The Time field will now be available. Enter a time of day that no users will be logged into EXACT
💡Tip: Configure this to run outside of your standard operating hours, taking any other software operating, such as anti-virus scans, into consideration. - Click Finish to save.
Backup Location
The backup location will need Windows permissions configured to enable the backup to run. If you have any errors when performing this, complete the following steps.
- Locate the backup folder.
- Right-click the backup folder (i.e. C:\DataBkup).
- Go to Properties.
- Under Security, click edit.
- Highlight users, then tick the full control box to make sure all Windows users can read/write to that folder.
